Walking into a smoke filled dressing room with the sounds of Kanye Wests’ The Life Of Pablo album playing (specifically the song ‘Famous’). Dizzy Wright welcomes us all into the room and almost immediately we began to participate in the already smoked out cypher at hand (Yeah, we smoked with Dizzy Wright). Dizzy is a very down to earth guy, he had his phone hooked up to the Aux cord and he was switching between different artist like: Kodak Black, Kendrick Lamar, Future, Wiz Khalifa, and more (what’s a playlist without these artist anyway!?).
I always thought when I met an established artist like Dizzy Wright that I would somehow be star struck — but it was the exact opposite, I felt like Dizzy and his team were some close friends I’ve known for a while… they were just like me. I’ve always heard about different artist pre-show rituals and how they may require a certain type of music, different foods, or even watching Kung-Fu movies before taking the stage (Alice Cooper). But Dizzy’s ritual was more spiritual, we all came together in a circle and prayed for good vibes and good energy.
It was amazing to see that some of these artist are still sane even with the success and fame they have garnered throughout the years. Dizzy’s stardom has not affected him as a human being at all, he was really humbled.
Dizzy hit the stage and immediately the crowd went crazy and we were in the midst of it all — I secretly wished Dizzy would have called us out to perform with him (let me dream a little).
